A gate valve smith or sluice valve controls the flow of fluids in pipelines by fully opening or closing the flow path. It lifts or lowers a gate or wedge perpendicular to the flow direction. Gate valves are primarily designed for on/off control rather than regulating flow.
Gate Valve Smith
The gate of a gate valve can be wedge-shaped or parallel-faced. The valve body often consists of a handwheel, stem, bonnet, valve body, and gate. Turning the handwheel raises or lowers the gate via a threaded stem. When it is fully opened, the valve provides an unobstructed flow path.
Gate valves can be made from cast iron, stainless steel, brass, or PVC. It is often used in water supply systems, oil and gas pipelines, fire protection systems, and other industrial processes.
